Shock Revalving, Spring Selection and Individual Damper Tuning
All Nitron shocks are tuneable and revalveable allowing every shock to be made unique to both the vehicle and the driver/rider.
Nitron engineers can adjust the damping characteristics and dynamic performance using a variety of methods. Through changing the main piston bump and rebound shim stacks, adding bleed ports and varying shim preload, NTR shocks are rated as one of the most tuneable dampers available.
Customers are also able to have their Nitrons valved to match original shock characteristics that are no longer available or replicate a setup that has been race honed over many years. This is no trouble at all. Nitron can benchmark most types of shocks with the ability to create OEM levels of repeatability and scale of production.
Nitron can also rate test springs and employ our state of the art Dynamometers to test and develop damper characteristics.
Please contact your regional authorised Nitron service centre for further details on any element of servicing, testing or development.
Shock Servicing
Nitron warrant all its products and accessories against design and material defect for a period of 1 year from date of purchase.
Nitron shocks have been designed and built to provide many years of exceptional performance, however it is recommended that they are serviced by a Nitron approved service centre according to the individual schedule received with the shock. It is recommended that every 12,000 – 18,000 miles (or 10-15 hours race/track use) the shocks are assessed and serviced.
Uniquely, Nitron offer a rolling 12 month parts and labor warranty on all shocks that are serviced by an approved centre.
Dampers are rebuilt and serviced to maintain their optimum ‘as new’ performance. As the piston rod assembly moves within the body-tube, tiny atmospheric particles and road debris ingress past the rod seals. This is of course an extremely slow process. Over many miles of driving/riding and millions of damper shaft movements, the oil is subjected to increasing levels of foreign particles. This invasion blackens the damping fluid/oil in just the same way that the oil in your engine turns black over time. This degradation hinders the flow of the oil through the various ports and can significantly reduce the overall damping efficiency. The viscosity of the oil is also likely to have changed and can run ‘thin’ in tired dampers producing adverse handling characteristics.
When an authorised Nitron service centre rebuilds an NTR shock, more than just the oil is changed. The service protocol is extensive and covers the replacement of every significant internal component within the damper. Here is a breakdown of the work undertaken during the service of an NTR mototube:
- Fully disassemble dampers, thoroughly clean and degrease in chemical tank
- Replace all rod seals
- Replace all damper shims
- Replace all critical o-ring and scraper seals
- Replace piston bands
- Replace diaphragm components
- Refill with the best factory shock oil
- Re-gas with Nitrogen to specified pressure
- Reassemble with cleaned springs and bearing spacers with new o-rings
- Reset customer damper and spring preload settings
A full assessment report is produced for every damper with the results relayed to the customer if any additional work, such as replacing a bent rod is required before proceeding. We feel strongly about creating an open dialogue and keeping customers updated with a fully agreed service invoice.
On rare occasions, Nitron will always honestly advise on the replacement of any non-service items that are close-to or below standards. The final decision to replace such items remains that of the customer and no additional charges will be made without the customers consent. Non-service parts are charged at cost price.
